Date Difference Calculator

Count the days, weeks and weekdays between two dates.

Result

364 days

Weeks
52
Weekdays (excl. weekends)
260

How it's calculated

  1. The calculator subtracts the earlier date from the later one to get the number of days. The end date itself is not counted, so 1 January to 2 January is 1 day.
  2. Weeks are the number of days divided by 7, shown to one decimal place.
  3. Weekdays are the Monday-to-Friday days from the start date up to, but not including, the end date.
  4. If the end date is before the start date, the calculator still shows the gap as a positive number.
  5. Leap years are handled automatically because the calculation uses real calendar dates.

Worked examples

1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026

That is 364 days, which is exactly 52 weeks (364 ÷ 7 = 52). Every full week has 5 weekdays, so there are 52 × 5 = 260 weekdays.

10 March 2026 to 24 March 2026

That is 14 days, or 2 weeks, and 2 × 5 = 10 weekdays.

1 January 2026 to 2 January 2026

That is 1 day, not 2, because the end date is not counted. 1 January 2026 is a Thursday, so there is 1 weekday.

Assumptions and notes

  • Public holidays are not excluded — they differ by state and territory.

Frequently asked questions

Is the end date included in the count?

No. The count runs from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. If you want to count both the first and last day, add 1 to the result.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. 28 February 2028 to 1 March 2028 is 2 days, because 2028 is a leap year and includes 29 February.

Can I count the days until a future date?

Yes. Enter today's date as the start date and the future date as the end date, and the result is the number of days to go.

Are public holidays taken out of the weekday count?

No. Public holidays differ between states and territories, so the weekday figure only excludes Saturdays and Sundays.
