- Multiply the block's length by its width (both in metres) to get the area in square metres (m²).
- Divide the area in m² by 10,000 to get hectares.
- Divide the area in m² by 4,046.86 to get acres.
- If your measurements are in feet, convert them to metres first (1 foot = 0.3048 m).
Worked examples
A 30 m × 20 m suburban block
30 × 20 = 600 m². In hectares that is 600 ÷ 10,000 = 0.06 ha, and in acres it is 600 ÷ 4,046.86 = 0.148 acres.
A 400 m × 250 m rural paddock
400 × 250 = 100,000 m². Divided by 10,000 that is exactly 10 hectares, or about 24.71 acres (100,000 ÷ 4,046.86).
A 50 m × 20 m block
50 × 20 = 1,000 m². That is 1,000 ÷ 10,000 = 0.1 ha, or about 0.247 acres (1,000 ÷ 4,046.86).
